Hide your ID number and photo on a copy of your ID

Last updated:

Landlords and agencies often ask for a copy of your ID. They need your name and photo to check who you are, but not your national ID number. With that number, someone can commit identity fraud in your name. Cover it before you send the copy.

On your ID

Cover your BSN (citizen service number) and your passport photo. A landlord may only ask for an ID copy when the contract is being prepared.

On your payslips

Your BSN is on your payslips too: cover it.

JPG, PNG or WebP. Have a PDF? Take a screenshot of the page first.

Your file never leaves your device. Everything happens in your browser.

Why cover your ID number?

Rental fraud often starts with a copy of someone's ID. A national ID number, tax number or social security number lets criminals open accounts, take out loans or rent homes in your name. A landlord can check who you are without it.

What a landlord does need

Your full name, your photo and the document's expiry date. Leave those readable. Each country has its own rules, which you'll find above and in our country guides.
